Nats Finish First AJHL Showcase With 2-1 Record

2007-09-22

Netminder Tony Wolak stopped 24 o 25 shots against Laconia Sept. 22 to notch his first-ever Junior A victory.

First AJHL Showcase of the season is in the books.

The Junior Nats defeated the Hartford Jr. Wolf Pack, 3-2, Friday night, Sept. 21, defeated the Laconia Leafs 4-2 on Saturday, Sept. 22, and dropped a 7-1 decision to defending AJHL champ New York Bobcats on Sept. 23 at the first AJHL Showcase of the season in Walpole, Mass.

The 2-1 record pushes the Nats season record to 3-2-0-0 overall and in the AJHL.

Against Hartford, all five goals in the game were power play tallies.  Washington's markers came from Ryan Holley, Bobby Ferrari and Joey Demeria.  Holley added an assist on Demeria's goal Phil Borner and Matt Tinordi also added assists.  The Nats outshot Hartford 35-21 with T.J. Cuneo making 18 saves for Washington.

Saturday's game against Laconia saw Craig Kitto lead the way with two goals, while Dave Fegler and Jimmy Day (game winner) also added tallies.  Netminder Tony Wolak turned away 24 of 25 shots and notched his first-ever Nats victory in the process.

Kitto scored the lone talley for the Nats on Sept. 23.

Washington returns to action Sept. 29 with a game against the Little Flyers at Kettler Capitals Iceplex at 7pm.
