Nats Sweep Senators On The Road

2008-09-21

Washington doesn't surrender even-strength goal all weekend.

The Washington Junior Natonals got their first weekend road sweep of the AJHL season Sept. 20-21 when they traveled to Binghamton, N.Y., and claimed a pair of victories by 5-2 and 3-2 margins over the Junior Senators.

On Sept. 20 the teams battled through a scoreless first period before the Senators got on the board first at the midway point of the middle period.  Defensemen Kyle Brumfeld and Patrick Foster answered with back-to-back goals less than two minutes apart to put the Nats on top 2-1.  Joey Demeria added a power play tally at the 16:03 mark, which proved to be the game winner, to give Washington a 3-1 margin heading into the third.  During the final period Bill Bock scored a shorthanded goal and Nicky Demeria added an insurance goal.  Matt Turner kicked away 34 shots to get the victory between the pipes.

During Sunday's contest Ryan McDonald put the Nats on the board in the first period and Ray Furr scored in the second to put the Nats up 2-0 after two periods.  McDonald had two assists Saturday and assisted on Furr's Sunday goal for a four-point weekend.

The homestanding Sens scored twice in the third to tie up the game, and Nick Bureau got the shootout-winning marker after a scoreless five-minute overtime.  Ryan Walsh went the full 65 minutes in the nets to claim the victory.
