Golf exercise and stretch. This is a combination I use in all of my golf fitness programs both online and with my personal golf clients. It’s the ultimate combination to improve the golfers swing quickly and efficiently.

A fitness program for golfers that does not incorporate a golf exercise and stretch is doing more harm than good. Golfers need that blend of dynamic strength specific to the golf swing and the range of motion to hold it for 18 holes.

So many times I hear a golfer mention stretching only. This is a big mistake! Stretching without strengthening does not equal permanent range of motion improvements. An over-stretched muscle that doesn’t have strength opens up the possibilities for injury.

That is why golf exercise and stretch is the key. For every golf exercise, there is an appropriate stretch. Taking this approach will create a powerful swing with less tension and stress put on the body.

An example of golf exercise and stretch is doing a back hyperextension for strength, and then lying on your back, grabbing your knees and pulling them into your chest to stretch your back. That would be a perfect combination for your lower back.

This is how your entire golf exercise program should be laid out. And notice, it’s never just one or the other. It’s both!

If you ever come across a golf fitness trainer who doesn’t incorporate both…run! That’s not the program for you. Any professional should mention both topics, not just one or the other.

So hopefully you have gained a little knowledge as to a golf exercise and stretch program.

Golf for guys who don’t golf

Discover what you should not do in a golf course, and what you should do. Simple yet powerful techniques to avoid frustration.

Most Guys avoid golf for one of two reasons: They’ve either never tried it, or they’ve found that their complete lack of skill and knowledge results in equal parts humiliation and frustration. Unfortunately, there’s one inescapable fact: You can’t avoid the game forever. At some point, you will be forced into an uncomfortable play-or-die round with your boss, client, or future father-in-law (hopefully, not all at once). But don’t worry. All seasoned players share one thing when it comes to playing with newbies: They don’t care how bad you are, just so long as you keep the game moving and don’t add strokes to their score. Here’s all you need to know to play golf with a pro–without losing your job, your sale, or your girl in the process.

DON’T Stand behind the ball and watch someone swing, even if you’re far enough away to avoid getting whacked with the club. Nothing maddens serious players more than being able to see you out of the corner of their eye, and the only place you can stand and be seen is directly behind the ball (or in front of it, in which case you’re not a distraction, just a fool). Your best bet: Stand at least five yards away on the side of the ball opposite the player. And don’t talk or make any other purposeful noises–for instance, unzipping your bag or burping–while someone is preparing to swing.

DO Watch the entire flight and roll of your ball and “mark” it against something on the landscape so you know where it is. It’s amazing how often beginners get so caught up in the histrionics of their frustration that they lose track of the moving ball. Amazing meaning every time! Nothing is more of a drag on your fellow players than to have to help you look for a lost ball on every hole.

DON’T Walk between anyone’s ball and the hole when you’re on the green. The truth is that this really doesn’t make a bit of difference in the outcome of someone’s putt–particularly since metal cleats went the way of the mullet–but most guys think it does. And when it comes to etiquette, perception is all that matters.

Golf strength training is critical in slowing down the effects of aging. Issues like rapidly declining strength, flexibility, and endurance. The number of golfers who are middle age or older is growing and they all want to play as long as possible.

In order to both slow the aging process AND play longer, you need adequate levels of strength, flexibility, and other physical abilities.

Golfers (and most others) lose as they age. The cause is quite simple. They do not partake in any form of golf strength training exercises to maintain the fitness levels they had early on in life.

It is NEVER too late to improve strength and flexibility. I have worked with golfers in person and via my websites that are in their 70′s and 80′s that have almost doubled their current strength and dramatically improved their flexibility (specific to golf).

Just by doing a simple golf strength training routine a couple of times a week, you will increase the level of strength and other important aspects, and not be as aware of the changes that come with aging. You can’t stop it, but you can slow it down and even reverse it depending on your current level of fitness.

One of the major areas most senior golfers lose…is the flexibility in their midsection (core), which is critical in generating power in the golf swing. As a result, the senior golfer will make a change in swing technique, rather than address the physical limation.

There are many senior golfers who can still play a good game of golf due to the fact of playing and practicing throughout the years…however their swing execution, power and overall consistency has been dramatically affected.

Therefore, it is critical for senior golfers to maintain or increase strength, flexibility, even balance and coordination to preserve the performance or level of golf they so yearn to achieve.

Given the above scenario, I hope you realize the importance of golf strength training.

Many people believe that simply getting out on the course and playing as often as they can is practicing their golf game. While playing often does help you improve, to really see improvement you need to perform golf drills that will target very specific components of your game so you can improve them. Just getting out on the course means you could just be “practicing?the same errors, drills focus on golf mechanics and will fix those errors.

Drills to strengthen your core come in handy when you need to improve your swing. One such drill is similar to push ups. Get in a push-up position on the floor and hold your body straight with just your hands and feet on the floor. Then, lift your right hand and left leg up and balance for 10-15 seconds. Repeat this move with your left hand and right foot. This drill increases strength and also works on your balance.

One of the simplest putting drills is simply to practice putting when you have an opportunity. At home, you can putt a few shots during each commercial break of your favorite show. At work, putt a few while the computer boots up in the morning, or when you’re waiting for a report to run. Vary your shots so you’re not putting from the same distance each time. Adding a few practice putts in each day can go a long way in improving your putting skills.

No matter which drill you are working on, think about how your body is working while you practice the drill. Would you do better if you have more strength in your lower back? Would increased flexibility help you perform better? This is when you can combine fitness into your drill practice. If your drills help you identify areas where you can strengthen your body, by all means incorporate some exercises into your fitness routine to combat those weaknesses.

Drills can hone in on particular problem areas and really help you focus on the steps to improve those areas. With a little extra effort, you’re on your way to a great game of golf.
